The shou sugi ban cladding on the secondary dwelling is finally complete, and honestly, we couldnt love it anymore if we tried!
This wasn't a cheap decision - the charred timber came with a significant price tag. But seeing it finished we know it was the right decision. The way it sits against the landscape is exactly what we envisioned.
The install process was interesting. The team hadn't actually worked with shou sugi ban before, so there was a bit of uncertainty around timing. How long would it take? Would there be issues with the warping and bending that's natural with this material? They took it slow, worked methodically, and figured it out as they went.
It did take longer than standard cladding, but the end result speaks for itself. The finished exterior has this moody, dramatic effect while still feeling warm and natural.
Worth every dollar and every hour of install time!
