A short drive in any direction.

Agape sits in the middle of a small, mostly quiet part of the NSW south coast. Seven minutes east to a working harbour town. Twelve minutes inland to a dairy village. Twenty minutes south to the best bakery on the coast. Half an hour north to the basalt cliffs at Bombo. What follows is a considered, opinionated guide — more useful than exhaustive.

All distances given from the gate at 33 Halls Road, in minutes by car.

    Kiama

The closest full-service town, seven minutes east on Jerrara Road. Coffee, groceries, a working harbour, a blowhole, and a train line that runs back to Sydney in just under two hours.

Terralong Street is the main strip — everything you might need in a morning, and nothing you don’t. The Sunday producers’ market sets up at Black Beach, overlooking the harbour, the second and fourth Sunday of each month.

    Jamberoo

A working farming village twelve minutes inland, tucked beneath the escarpment. A single pub, a single bakery, a single butcher — and all three are worth the drive.

The back road from Agape into Jamberoo is one of the best short drives in the region. Go for the bread, stay for the afternoon at the pub.

    Gerringong

A quieter village fifteen minutes south, set on the ridge above Werri Beach. Smaller, slower, and most of the best south-coast eating sits within a two-minute walk of the main roundabout.

If you’re staying the week, one dinner here and one long Sunday breakfast is the right rhythm. Walk the Werri headland after.

    Bombo Headland  — Kiama

The old basalt quarry turned sculpture park, just north of Kiama. Hexagonal basalt columns drop into the Tasman; the light at 7am is ridiculous.

Not a swimming beach — come for the walk and the quarry. Park at Bombo Headland Reserve. Thirty minutes, round trip, unhurried.

Kiama Blowhole & Rock Pools  — Kiama

The blowhole fires on a south-easterly swell, which is most of the year. Below it, a protected rock pool carved into the basalt — worth the dawn swim at least once.

Pool is free, 24 hours and open all year round. Follow the path from the blowhole down to the pool. Go early; it fills up by 9am in summer.

Park at the north end near the surf club for lagoon swimming with kids; park at the south end near the headland for the point and the walk out to Werri Lagoon.

Drive to the Gerroa end for the headland view from the car park, then walk south. Bring everything with you; there is nothing on the beach itself.
